April 8 2025 release Notes

Version 3.9

Feature Additions

Dynamic Power Toggle – Optional Functionality for Enhanced Control

This functionality is entirely optional and can be disregarded, if the user chooses.
Primary Use Cases:

  • Disabling Parametric Functionality by Default

    • Users who prefer to work without parametric adjustments can set the Command Default: Power On to ‘Off’ in preferences.

    • When disabled, any modifications made after the initial generate will apply only to the selected object/command, preventing automatic updates to dependencies.

  • Optimizing Performance for Complex Designs

    • For workflows involving multiple dynamic commands, adjusting early-stage parameters can introduce regenerate delays.

    • The Dynamic Power toggle allows users to temporarily disable computational bottlenecks, make necessary changes, and then re-enable them for a single optimized generate, reducing unnecessary recalculations.

  • This feature provides greater flexibility and efficiency for users managing parametric-heavy workflows.

Quick Commands – Customizable Layout & Tabs:

  • Enhancements to Quick Commands now allow users to create, customize, and manage multiple tabbed layouts for workflow efficiency.

    • Custom Tabs: Create and configure tabs tailored to your specific use cases.

    • Template Management: Save, import, open, and modify templates as needed.

    • Cross-Device Compatibility: Transfer templates between PCs seamlessly.

    • User Sharing: Share your custom templates with other users for consistent setups.

Prongs on Surface Non-Parametric:

  • This new prong on the surface is designed to be used on meshes, surfaces, or SubD objects. This prong tool is meant to be used in situations where parametric control is not needed for surface modifications and the design requires a heavy load of prongs.

Parametric Mirroring - Adjustable Center Targets:

  • Enhancements to Mirroring and Arraying now allow users to dynamically mirror based on different center objects.

    • Dynamic Mirror: Users can now gvMirror objects across user-defined CPlanes. World Top Cplane still the default if no custom CPlane is applicable.

    • Polar Array: Users can now gvPolarArray objects based on the active Viewport CPlane when the command is executed. World Center is still the default if no custom CPlane is applicable.

    • Both functions can be utilized alongside gvGemView and gvSurfaceView.

    • Run ‘Restore Viewports' in the 'View’ menu to return to the default state.

Performance Improvements:

  • Opening files has been optimized to be faster.

    • Previously, while opening files, MatrixGold was generating and fixing each display mode, regardless if the mode was used, or if the file was empty.

    • Now, MatrixGold will generate the fix display modes upon first use, lessening File/Open times.

    • First-time switching display modes will cause a one-time performance lag while building/fixing those styles.

  • Improved performance around UI and builder updates to refresh only when values of an input channel has changed.

    • Previously, if an input channel was named InIsUIDisabled, and had an applicable link to something setting the UI to change, it would trigger an update to clone and re-create all “changed” sliders. This was causing each tick of any VPCH to mark unrelated UIControls as changed, decreasing performance.

    • Now, we will only ever update applicable UIControls as changed when they are, in fact, adjusted.

  • Bypassed quick regen for some blocks, allowing some builders to show preview curves during parameter changes, only regenerating when mouse is released. The Dynamic Commands affected are Signet Advanced, Hinge, and Cut to Ring Rail.

    • Previously, for the aforementioned commands, dragging handles was sluggish due to the nature of certain blocks with potentially hefty operations, such as booleans, which generate final geometry.

    • Now, a new method has been created which allows targeted blocks to be bypassed, allowing users to make adjustments to tools with curves as a reference, before performing the hefty operations that draw the final geometry.

  • Changed places where Force Graph Redraw was used in cases where it wasn’t needed.

    • We’ve performed an Audit on the Force Graph Redraw function. It was overkill in some situations, causing every block to be marked as dirty to then be regenerated.

    • This function has been removed where it was no longer needed, and sped up situations where gvHead was marked as dirty and redrawn, speeding up performance.

General Improvements:

  • Horizontal Panel limitations have been adjusted to allow more expand/retract space.

    • Previously, our layer panels, when docked, were restricting the amount of resizing available to the left side of the UI.

    • This has been adjusted to allow more flexibility with resizing.

  • Updated about screen with new info.

    • Added and removed names and information to the About screen.

  • Added scroll functionality for bottom bar when it had overfill.

    • Previously, on smaller displays, the bottom bar would ‘overfill’ when all options were turned on.

    • A scroll bar has been added to the bottom bar to allow navigation when all options are turned on.

  • Updated images for CZ Black, Diamond Black, and Garnet Brazilian Reddish Purple.

    • We’ve slightly brightened some material icons to be more representative of their rendered results.

  • Small adjustment to improve placing Quick Commands at the end of the list.

    • Previously, drag-dropping Quick Commands to the end of the listing required too much precision.

    • Now, drag-dropping Quick Commands to the end of the listing should be more forgiving.

  • Added case for multiple-GPU appearance in Preferences → Troubleshooting.

    • Previously, in many cases, only one GPU appeared in the Troubleshooting menu.

    • Now, multiple can appear, including Onboard and Installed GPUs.

  • Updated MatrixGold to use Rhinoceros 8 SR 14.

    • MatrixGold 3.9 now requires Rhino 8 SR 14 to run.

    • Updated minimum Rhino version to correlate.

      • Updated notification during installation if the minimum version, 8.14, is not met.

  • Added ability to adjust Gem Profile Start/End for Channel Cutters.

    • Users can now adjust the Profile Start/End on Channel Cutters, allowing extension of the profile without touching the Cap.

    • More adjustments to come.

  • High Level - Minor rhino-related issues solved for.

    • Some Rhino-specific issues have been solved.

  • The title bar, along with MatrixGold, can now be dragged while in full-screen mode.

    • MatrixGold can now be moved while in full-screen mode.

  • Added scroll-wheel functionality to the materials list in Batch Render.

    • The scroll-wheel was not working in the Materials section of Batch Render.

    • Now it works.

  • Updated version number to 3.9.

  • Added Launcher to MG installer to bypass Launcher Update Issue.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed when Gems weren’t staying on applied layer after edits.

    • Previously, gems that were moved to different layers would revert to their cut type layers when edited.

    • Now, gems should remain on the layer they have been changed to when edited.

  • Fixed when showing gvHidden objects would draw them on the wrong layer.

    • Previously, when a dynamic command was hidden from the panel or targeted with gvHide, ‘Showing’ that object for the command could sometimes result in the geometry having a different layer than before it was hidden.

    • This has been fixed in many cases but will be an ongoing process to adjust for more.

    • Fixed associated bug for losing applied custom layer info and reverting objects to Metal 01.

      • gvHidden builders would sometimes lose all layer info and revert to Metal 01

      • This has been fixed, and should retain not only the original layer, but also the applied custom layer.

  • Fixed when trimming curves in MicroProngCutter’s Profile Editor causing Rhinoceros to crash.

    • Previously, trimming a curve using another as a cutting object in MicroProngCutter’s Profile Editor window was causing a Rhinoceros crash.

    • The crash should no longer happen, and trimming with a cutting curve should work as expected or fail to draw geometry if the curves aren’t valid.

  • Fixed when trimming curves in SignetAdvanced’s and HeadBuilder’s Profile Editor causing Rhinoceros to crash.

    • Previously, trimming a curve using another as a cutting object in SignetAdvanced’s and HeadBuilder’s Profile Editor window was causing a Rhinoceros crash.

    • The crash should no longer happen, and trimming with a cutting curve should work as expected or fail to draw geometry if the curves aren’t valid.

  • Prevented custom dimensions reverting to the Size List when using gvGemOverride after entering custom dimensions.

    • Previously, changing the cut type or shape of a custom-sized gvGemOverridden gem was reverting the gem to a Size List size, rather than retaining the custom-sizing.

    • Now, changing the cut type or shape of a custom-sized gvGemOverride gem should not revert to the Size List.

    • This change brings gvGemOverride into more alignment with gvGem.

  • Fixed when rhino mirroring Gems, they were showing negative weight numbers.

    • Previously, using Rhinoceros' mirror with a gvGem would invert the normals of the resulting gem, causing the weight to be negative.

    • Now, gvGems mirrord with Rhinoceros' mirror should no longer appear to have negative weight.

  • Fixed Chamfer Toggle creating some Bezel geometries invalid.

    • Previously, in many cases, the chamfer toggle in gvBezel resulted in invalid geometry which could affect downstream functionality.

    • This should no longer be the case in the majority of cases found.

  • Fixed combination gvPulltoRail and Chamfered Bezels create invalid geometry.

    • Valid geometry was drawn from the combined commands PullToRail and Bezel w/Chamfer.

    • Geometry output should now be valid in these isntances.

  • Fixed CPlane options in gvCenterObjects to work properly.

    • Previously, running gvCenterObjects and setting the Space to C-Plane would not move the selected objects to the expected location when your CPlane was not not set to World Top (MatrixGold default)

    • Now, using gvCenterObjects and setting the Space to C-Plane will place the pbjects as expected when utilizing the CPlane and active viewport.

  • Fixed issue in Render Studio → Document Materials showing the Viewport Ring in some generated previews.

    • Preview images for document materials were generated with the Viewport ring inside in some instances.

    • This should no longer be the case.

  • Fixed issue where Batch Render → Layers did not show the render materials by default.

    • Render specific metals and gems were not shown in Batch render.

    • Now they are.

  • Fixed issue where deleting a command then performing an Undo was failing.

    • When Undo was used on a deleted dynamic command, it failed to bring the command back.

    • This should be fixed.

  • Fixed issue where adjusting size or location VPCH for Gems affecting the Sizing slider.

    • Adjusting size or location VPCH for Gems were affecting the Sizing slider in the dynamic panel UI.

    • This should no longer be the case.

  • Fixed workflow where showing a duplicate gvOverridden Gem was showing the original Gem.

    • The combination of a gvHidden original gem, and a Rhino hidden Overridden gem, then using Rhino’s Show, was causing both to appear in the document. Though the original gem kept it’s gvHidden state in the dynamic commands panel.

    • This has been resolved.

  • Fixed issue where layer preferences weren’t saved properly.

    • Layer preferences weren’t being saved properly or applied with new sessions.

    • This has been resolved.

  • Fixed issue where Perspective Viewport missing would cause Server Busy Error when opening Style Sheets.

    • Accessing Style Sheets in any command without a Perspective Viewport present would cause a lagging server-busy error.

    • This has been resolved.

  • Fixed issue where Animation was causing performance issues with other applications.

    • Running an animation in MatrixGold was rendering doing much of anything else on the PC impossible.

    • This should no longer be the case.

  • Fixed issue with pasting geometry and missing original objects resulting in graph desync.

    • Previously, copying objects with dynamic history in MatrixGold, then pasting these objects into a document without the original geometry and further editing them would result in duplicate geometry creation.

    • This has been addressed.

  • Fixed issue in gvCutToRingRail where Comfort Fit wasn’t working.

    • The Comfort Fit option in gvCutToRingRail wasn’t working.

    • Comfort Fit now works, and provides user-feedback on what it is doing.

  • Fixed issue where the last 3 Prong Layouts did not work after applying Style from Style Sheets.

    • On a round gem, choosing a different style in gvHead besides the default causes the last 3 prong layouts to fail.

    • This has been fixed.

  • Fixed issue where Dynamic Commands panel values desynced from VPCH.

    • There were instances where the dynamic commands UI values were desyncing from the VPCH.

    • Issue where the Compatibility Warning did not recognize Rhino 8 SR 14 was installed.
